Textbook: The American Journey, Illinois Edition http://www.taj.glencoe.com

 

The 7th grade Social Studies course covers United States history from prehistoric times through the American Civil War. Students will use maps, charts, primary sources and textbook readings to study the political, economic and social events that have shaped the United States. This course also includes the study of the U.S. constitution. Students must pass the U.S. constitution test in order to graduate from Junior High school. Course goals are aligned with the following Illinois standards:

 

  •     STATE GOAL 14: Understand political systems, with an emphasis on the United States.
  •        STATE GOAL 15:  Understand economic systems, with an emphasis on the United States.     
  • STATE GOAL 16: Understand events, trends, individuals and movements shaping the history of Illinois, the United States and other nations.
  •         STATE GOAL 17: Understand world geography and the effects of geography on society, with an emphasis on the United States.
  •        STATE GOAL 18: Understand social systems, with an emphasis on the United States.
