6th Grade Social Studies: World History

Course Description: Our 6th grade Social Studies course covers the beginning of civilization through modern times. We will study the following topics:

·         Early Civilizations (Mesopotamia, Egypt, Israel)

·         Ancient World ( Greece, India, China)

·         New Empires ( Rome, Rise of  Religion)

·         Middle Ages

·         First Americans

·         Renaissance and Reformation

 

·         Enlightenment and Revolution (American Revolution)

·         Industry and Nationalism

·         Imperialism and World War I

·         World War II and the Cold War

·         Today’s World

 

Our course goals are aligned with the following Illinois standards.

·         STATE GOAL 14: Understand political systems, with an emphasis on the United States.

·         STATE GOAL 15:  Understand economic systems, with an emphasis on the United States.

·          STATE GOAL 16: Understand events, trends, individuals and movements shaping the history of Illinois, the United States and other nations.

·         STATE GOAL 17: Understand world geography and the effects of geography on society, with an emphasis on the United States.

·         STATE GOAL 18: Understand social systems, with an emphasis on the United States.
