Development of skills and knowledge related to the systematic design of instruction. Emphasis is placed on content analysis, instructional strategies, and formative evaluation. (Mizzou Direct Course Catalog)

This class made me realize I need to think more about why I'm teaching a lesson and to develop an instructional plan for my lesson. I've taught long enough that many of my daily lessons are almost automatic. I know I need to take time to analyze what I'm doing, and to design my lessons around the needs of my students. The discussions during this class helped me to remember that I need to focus on the purpose of each lesson, and take the time to think about what I am doing.

Since my district had recently adopted a new online grade program, I designed a staff development workshop to introduce the new program. I have used an online grade program for several years, so I had more experience using such a program than most of our teachers, and other staff members frequently came to me for help. I thought if they were going to be asking me for help, I should have the applicable information and materials available. That identifed need gave me the idea to create this workshop.
